Thermal Energy Systems Belfast & Northern Ireland

BSH Limited designs thermal energy systems within combination fuelled plant, integrating heat generation, recovery, storage and distribution for commercial and industrial buildings.

Thermal Energy Systems Belfast reflects BSH Limited's integrated thermal capability for commercial and industrial buildings. BSH designs combination fuelled systems that include heating, cooling, combined heat and power, domestic and control systems — so the thermal energy system is specified as the integrated generation, recovery, storage and distribution of heat rather than as separate boilers and chillers.

A thermal energy system covers the plant that generates, recovers, stores and distributes heat: the boilers and CHP that produce it, the heat exchangers and heat recovery that capture waste heat, the thermal storage that buffers it, and the distribution circuits that deliver it to heating, hot water or — through absorption chilling — cooling.

Where waste heat is recovered into cooling, Yazaki absorption chilling utilises heat as its main power source, unlike most air conditioning equipment which use electric. BSH designed and built the largest trigeneration plant room in Europe in 2012, which combined power, heat and cooling through integrated thermal energy recovery.

Generation, recovery and distribution as one system

BSH designs combination fuelled systems that include heating, cooling, combined heat and power, domestic and control systems. That integrated approach treats thermal energy as a flow from generation through recovery, storage and distribution — so boilers, CHP, heat exchangers, thermal storage and the heating and cooling circuits are specified together rather than as separate items.

Heat recovery into heating, hot water and cooling

Where waste heat is recovered, it can feed heating, domestic hot water or — through Yazaki absorption chilling — cooling. Absorption chilling primarily utilises heat as its main power source, unlike most air conditioning equipment which use electric, turning recovered heat into a useful cooling output and reducing the carbon emissions of the thermal system.

Delivered through plantrooms

Where the thermal energy system is delivered through a pre-packaged plantroom, the boilers, CHP, heat exchangers, pumps and controls are assembled and inspected off site before delivery as a plug and power solution. This keeps the thermal system integrated and reduces installation time and risk on site, with lead times as little as 8 weeks from order and final design approval.

How BSH can help

Problem

Thermal energy treated as separate boilers, chillers and heat recovery packages can end up with generation sized without considering recoverable heat, recovered heat with no load to use it, and distribution that does not match the way the building consumes thermal energy. Where the thermal system is procured as separate components, the integration that makes recovery worthwhile is lost at the interfaces.

Reaction

Uncoordinated thermal energy systems raise fuel cost and carbon emissions, waste recoverable heat, and make performance hard for facilities managers to report on. Commercial and industrial operators need an engineering partner who designs the thermal system as a whole — generation, recovery, storage and distribution together.

Solution

BSH designs thermal energy systems within combination fuelled plant, integrating heat generation, recovery, storage and distribution, with Yazaki absorption chilling turning recovered heat into cooling. Because the right thermal system depends on your loads and heat sources, the next step is to discuss your requirements with BSH's engineers.
